Virtualization Explained....

  • What resources do you actually need for a basic computer?
You should have a CPU, Memory and storage.
  • CPU for processing your programs.
  •  Memory for storing temporary data while executing a program.
  • Storage for storing the OS and related data, long term data like end output of a program after execution.

So if I have these basic resources I can create a computer out of those. In our example we have Quad core processor, 8 GB RAM and 1 TB storage which look like this:

From the above figure, it is understood that 1 CPU Core, 2 GB RAM and 200 GB hard Disk is used to create a VM (Virtual Machine).

So, I can create 4 VMs of same or different configurations by using the available 4 cores, 8 GB RAM and 1 TB Hard Disk and use these VMs to run any OS like MS Windows, Linux, Solaris etc.

These four VMs will be up and running until your base OS, that is your Hyper Visor is up and running.

And for VMWARE, ESXi is the Hyper Visor.

What is a Hyper Visor??

  1. Hypervisor is a technology in which EXSI/EXI products of VMware, Windows product of Microsoft and Citrix Xen Apps products of Citrix.
Which manages the all Virtual machines on Hypev manager .
And also to check node we will use File over cluster protocol

  2. number of cores depends on the ESXi licenses you have , you can assign more cores to a VM if you have the license for it

    1. Licensing for ESXi is not per core, it is per CPU or per Socket. Ex: If you have 1 CPU with 12 core you have to buy only 1 license but not 12.
